How To Complete Google Business Profile Video Verification
When Google Needs Additional Confirmation That Your Business Is Legitimate, They Will Require A Video Verification. This Process Helps Google Confirm That Your Business Is Real, Operating In Its Stated Area, And That You Have The Authority To Manage It.
Crucial Rule: The video must be recorded live on your mobile phone through the Google Business Profile interface. You cannot upload a pre-recorded file, and you must not edit or splice the footage.
General Technical Requirements
Before you hit record, ensure your mobile device is ready to go:
- Internet Connection: Connect to a strong Wi-Fi network or use reliable cellular data.
- Device Settings: Turn on your phone's GPS/Location Services and grant Google permissions to use your camera and microphone.
- Length: The video must be a single, continuous, unedited take. It must be at least 30 seconds long (we recommend keeping it under 3 minutes).
- Privacy Hard Rule: Do NOT show your government ID, driver's license, passport, or any private client data. Google will reject videos containing sensitive personal info or other people's clear faces.
- Audio: Keep the background quiet. You do not need to speak or narrate the video; Google relies entirely on visual evidence.
What to Film (Based on Your Business Type)
Google evaluates videos based on three categories: Location, Business Existence, and Proof of Management. Choose the track below that matches how your business is set up.
Track A: Storefront or Hybrid Businesses
Use this if customers visit your physical brick-and-mortar office or shop, and you have permanent signage.
Start outside. Film nearby cross-street signs, landmarks, building numbers, or neighboring storefronts. This proves your exact location matches Google Maps.
Film your exterior business sign. The name on the sign (window decal, building directory, or plaque) must match your Google Business Profile name exactly. Note: If you do not have permanent signage, you must stop and register as a Service-Area Business instead.
While continuing to record, walk inside. Film yourself unlocking the front door, opening a cash register, accessing your administrative point-of-sale (POS) system, or unlocking a staff-only room.
Pan across your inventory, tools, or office setup to show the business is actively operating.
Track B: Service-Area Businesses (SAB)
Use this if you work from home or a space without public signage, and you travel to your clients (e.g., plumbers, cleaners, digital agencies).
Start outside your home base. Film your immediate neighborhood's street signs, house numbers, or nearby landmarks to verify your geographic anchor point.
If you have a work vehicle with a company wrap, magnet, or decal, film it clearly. Show your business cards, branded uniforms, or print marketing materials.
Film the tools of your trade. This could be specialized machinery, software open on your computer screen showing your business name, or inventory used to serve clients.
Show yourself unlocking your branded vehicle or work environment. You may also lay out a utility bill, business permit, or client invoice on a desk. Hover the camera over it for 3 seconds so the business name is readable, but ensure no personal client data is exposed.
After You Submit
Once you tap Upload video within the app:
- Review Time: Google typically takes up to 5 business days to review submissions.
- Tracking Status: You can check your verification status directly in your Google Business Profile dashboard.
- If Rejected: Don't panic. Google will state the general reason for rejection (e.g., "signage missing" or "insufficient proof of management"). You can fix the issue, re-record, and resubmit.
Quick Troubleshooting Checklist
- Is my phone's GPS turned on?
- Am I recording live inside the Google app (not using my native camera app)?
- Did I leave my driver's license/ID visible?
- Does my business name on my documents/signs match my profile exactly?
- Did I show an "insider action" like unlocking a door or accessing a business system?
